2026 General election

The Public Safety Referendum will appear on the 2026 General Election ballot. Muskego voters can cast their ballot on Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, vote early through in-person absentee voting at City Hall, or request an absentee ballot by mail. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

  • Under state law, the increase in the levy of the City of Muskego for the tax to be imposed for the next fiscal year, 2027, is limited to 1.593%, which results in a levy of $14,732,877.00. Shall the City of Muskego be allowed to exceed this limit and increase the levy for the next fiscal year, 2027, for the purpose of improving public safety services in the City of Muskego, which, are the City's Police, Fire, EMS, Rescue, and Public Works services, including staffing and support for those services, by a total of 40.047%, which results in a levy of $20,632,877.00, and on an ongoing basis, include the increase of $5,900,000.00 for each fiscal year going forward?

  • A “Yes” vote means you support allowing the City of Muskego to increase its annual property tax levy by $5.9 million beginning in 2027 and on an ongoing basis to improve and support the City’s Police, Fire, EMS, Rescue, and Public Works services.

    The additional funding would be used for staffing and support for these public safety services, including the City’s transition to a municipal Fire and EMS Department and additional Police and Public Works staffing and resources.

  • A “No” vote means you do not support allowing the City of Muskego to increase its annual property tax levy by $5.9 million beginning in 2027 and on an ongoing basis for the public safety services identified in the referendum.

    If the referendum does not pass, the City would remain subject to its existing state levy limit and would not receive the additional $5.9 million in annual levy authority for the proposed additional Police, Fire, EMS, Rescue, and Public Works staffing and support included in the referendum.
